Wat Tham Phra Pha Pong is on a high mountain in Ban Khua Sung, Khok Tum Subdistrict, Nakhon Phanom. The surrounding landscape is a steep hillside area. There are many large and small caves. The local people said the caves were a hideout for people that the government accused they were communist. The different names of caves are from their appearance, history, etc. The monks finding the Phra Pha Pong cave were Phra Ajarn Uthai (Tik) Januttamo, a student of Luang Pu Ted Tedrangsi. When Phra Ajarn Tik built the new residence, the villagers called Tham Phra. In the cave, there is a chimney about a meter wide and about two meters long. Phrakhru Sophon Khantiplakon, a disciple of Phra Ajarn Tik, named the cave "Wat Tham Phra Pha Pong." There were many constructions at Wat Tham Pha Pong. Including Phra Uthaya Rattana Chedi, Buddha image hall of the Phra Chet Kasat, the pavilion, Dharma radio station, etc. As for the museum, the temple was not fully operational. Bueng Sa villagers at Taeng Noi District, Sakon Nakhon, the hometown of Phrakhru Sophon Khantiplakon, have unearthed ancient artifacts and gave them to Phra Kru Sophon Khantipalakon in 1999. Then, he established the Ban Bueng Sa Prehistoric Museum at Bueng Sa Temple to exhibit artifacts. The remaining antiques were at Wat Tham Phra Pha Pong, in the Buddha image hall of the Phra Chet Kasad and the Phra Uthaya Rattana Chedi. Inside the Buddha image hall is the enshrined Buddha image (Luang Por Chet Kasat). PhraKhru Sophon cooperated with Phrakhru Phawanakijkosol (Luang Pu Sor Phanthulo), Wat Pa Ban Nong Saeng, Yasothorn to build the Buddha image hall in 1998. Inside displayed antique objects in a glass cabinet about a meter wide. The matters are fragments of earthenware, metal axes, bronze jewelry, and bracelets from Ban Bueng Sa. Phra Uthaya Rattana Chedi was built in 1994 by Phra Kru Sophon and the villagers. The construction was to solve the problem of rain and sun. Inside exhibits antiques and valuable items such as the Buddha's relics, ancient Buddha images, amulets, and relics of various masters of the Isan region, such as Luang Pu Ted Tedrangsi, Luang Pu So Phantulo, robes, and necessities of Phra Ajarn Uthai (Tik) Januttamo, beads, ankle bracelets from Ban Bueng Sa, and paleogenetics.
